Methodology
Double-blind placebo-controlled RCT of 8 oz cranberry juice twice daily for 6 months in 319 college-age women presenting with an acute UTI.
Key Findings
Recurrence rates were 19.3% with cranberry versus 14.6% with placebo, a non-significant difference favouring placebo.
Conclusions
Twice-daily cranberry juice did not prevent recurrent UTI in this young female population.
Limitations
Higher-than-expected placebo response; single juice formulation; population at relatively low recurrence risk.
