Interventions for the Management of Computer Vision Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Singh S, McGuinness MB, Anderson AJ, Downie LE
Published in Ophthalmology
Methodology
Systematic review and meta-analysis of 45 randomized controlled trials of interventions for computer vision syndrome, searched through November 2021, with GRADE certainty assessment.
Key Findings
Across 45 RCTs the evidence for most marketed treatments for computer-related eye strain, including oral supplements and blue-light filtering lenses, was low or very low certainty, with no consistent clinically meaningful benefit.
Conclusions
No intervention for computer vision syndrome is currently supported by high-certainty evidence; claims for supplements and lens filters outpace the trial data.
Limitations
Heterogeneous outcome measures across trials; many included studies small and at risk of bias.
