    Adjuvant use of melatonin for pain management in endometriosis-associated pelvic pain: a randomized double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial

    Methodology

    Randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial of 20 mg melatonin daily versus placebo for two menstrual cycles in women aged 18-50 with endometriosis and severe dysmenorrhea

    Key Findings

    Mean pain was 2.9 (SD 1.9) with melatonin versus 3.3 (SD 2.0) with placebo, a difference that was neither statistically nor clinically significant (p=0.45).

    Conclusions

    Adjuvant melatonin 20 mg did not reduce endometriosis-associated pelvic pain compared with placebo.

    Limitations

    Small sample with dropouts (34 completers), short two-cycle duration, possibly underpowered.
