Methodology
Randomized clinical trial in 44 NAFLD patients given 20 g/day camelina oil plus resistant dextrin or 20 g/day camelina oil plus maltodextrin with a 500 kcal/day deficit for 12 weeks; cardiometabolic markers and DASS/GHQ mental-health scales assessed.
Key Findings
Adding resistant dextrin to camelina oil significantly lowered insulin, HOMA-IR, hs-CRP, endotoxin, cortisol, GHQ, DASS and MDA and raised total antioxidant capacity relative to camelina oil alone.
Conclusions
Camelina oil combined with a prebiotic outperformed camelina oil alone on cardiometabolic and mental-health measures.
Limitations
Both arms received camelina oil so isolated camelina effects cannot be estimated; small sample, self-reported psychological scales.
Supplements Studied
Co-supplementing CSO and resistant dextrin significantly decreased the level of insulin concentration, HOMA-IR, hs-CRP, endotoxin, cortisol.
Outcomes Measured
Co-supplementing CSO and resistant dextrin ... increased the levels of TAC (0.16 mmol L-1, p = 0.032).
