    Effect of vitamin D supplementation on hormones and menstrual cycle regularization in polycystic ovary syndrome women: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    Methodology

    Systematic review and meta-analysis of 12 studies including 849 women with PCOS examining vitamin D supplementation effects on LH, FSH, LH/FSH ratio and menstrual regularization.

    Key Findings

    Vitamin D reduced serum LH (SMD -0.41), with subgroup effects at doses up to 4000 IU/day and treatment up to 8 weeks; effects on menstrual regularity were less consistent.

    Conclusions

    Vitamin D can modestly improve hormonal profiles in PCOS, but evidence for restoring regular cycles remains limited.

    Limitations

    Small included trials, differing baseline vitamin D status, short durations, and co-supplementation confounding.
