    Magnesium Bisglycinate Supplementation in Healthy Adults Reporting Poor Sleep: A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial

    Methodology

    In 155 healthy adults reporting poor sleep, 4 weeks of magnesium bisglycinate improved subjective sleep quality (PSQI) and reduced sleep-onset latency versus placebo, with improvements also seen in daytime tiredness; objective actigraphy differences were smaller and less consistent.

    Conclusions

    Magnesium bisglycinate modestly improved self-reported sleep quality and onset latency in poor sleepers over 4 weeks, an encouraging but short and industry-supported result.

    Limitations

    Short 4-week duration in a self-selected poor-sleeper sample without diagnosed insomnia; primary outcome self-reported and prone to expectation effects; baseline magnesium status not uniformly deficient; industry involvement in supply of the study product.
