Published in European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery
Methodology
Multicentre randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial of 720 mg/day red-vine-leaf extract (AS195) for 12 weeks in CEAP grade 3-4a chronic venous insufficiency, with limb volume by water displacement volumetry.
Key Findings
Red-vine-leaf extract reduced lower limb volume by a mean of 19.9 ml versus placebo (p = 0.0268, effect size 0.28) and improved leg pain scores.
Conclusions
Red-vine-leaf extract produces a small but measurable reduction in venous leg swelling over 12 weeks.
Limitations
Modest absolute volume change, single proprietary extract, and 12-week duration limiting long-term inference.
