    Methodology

    Cochrane systematic review of randomized controlled trials of dietary supplements (omega-3, iron, folate, SAMe, cobalamin, pyridoxine, riboflavin, vitamin D, calcium) given antenatally or postnatally to non-depressed women to prevent postnatal depression.

    Key Findings

    No dietary supplement demonstrated clear benefit for preventing postnatal depression; the available trials were few and small.

    Conclusions

    There is insufficient evidence that any dietary supplement prevents postnatal depression.

    Limitations

    Very few eligible trials; heterogeneous supplements and outcome measures.
