    Published in Medicine

    Methodology

Systematic review and meta-analysis of 19 randomised controlled trials (1635 patients) of Astragalus injection plus platinum-based chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone in advanced non-small cell lung cancer, graded with GRADE.

    Key Findings

Astragalus injection plus chemotherapy improved objective response rate (RR = 1.19, 95% CI 1.06-1.33), Karnofsky performance status (RR = 2.28) and one-year survival (RR = 1.40, 95% CI 1.16-1.70) versus chemotherapy alone.

    Conclusions

Astragalus injection may enhance response and immune parameters alongside platinum chemotherapy, but the evidence base is low quality.

    Limitations

Injectable preparation, not an oral supplement; all trials conducted in China; low GRADE certainty and unclear blinding.

    Supplements Studied

AGI combined chemotherapy could significantly improve the objective response rate (relative risk [RR] = 1.19, 95% confidence interval [CI] [1.06, 1.33], P = .002).
