Effect of Pycnogenol on the Healing of Venous Ulcers
Toledo RR, Santos MERC, Schnaider TB
Published in Annals of Vascular Surgery
Methodology
Longitudinal, prospective randomized clinical trial comparing oral pycnogenol (50 mg three times daily) with diosmin/hesperidin (450/50 mg twice daily) in 30 adults with venous ulcers, assessed every 15 days for 90 days.
Key Findings
Both oral pycnogenol and diosmin/hesperidin were associated with reductions in venous ulcer area and affected-limb circumference over 90 days in a vascular surgery outpatient cohort.
Conclusions
Small comparative trial suggesting oral flavonoid therapy may support venous ulcer healing; no placebo arm was included.
Limitations
Very small sample (n=30), no placebo control, single centre, short follow-up.
