Altered iron and zinc levels are associated with ADHD severity, and supplementation trials suggest possible symptom improvement, but the number of randomised trials is small and the results are inconsistent.
Conclusions
Iron and zinc supplementation may have a role as adjunctive ADHD treatment, but current randomised evidence is insufficient for firm recommendations.
Limitations
Few randomised trials, heterogeneous doses and outcome scales, most participants had baseline deficiency, no meta-analysis performed.
