Methodology
Systematic review and random-effects meta-analysis of five studies (one randomised controlled trial and four observational studies) of purified cytoplasmic pollen extract for menopausal vasomotor symptoms.
Key Findings
Pooled analysis showed a decrease in vasomotor symptom scores from baseline to three-month follow-up after purified cytoplasmic pollen extract, but the evidence base was dominated by observational studies.
Conclusions
Purified pollen extract may reduce vasomotor symptoms in women who cannot or will not use hormone therapy, though the certainty of evidence is low.
Limitations
Only one randomised trial included, small total sample, mostly uncontrolled before-after data, industry-linked products.
Supplements Studied
An overall decrease in scores from the baseline of studies compared with a 3-month follow-up after purified cytoplasmic pollen extract.
Outcomes Measured
An overall decrease in scores from the baseline of studies compared with a 3-month follow-up after purified cytoplasmic pollen extract.
