Methodology
Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial of 3 g/day omega-3 versus MCT placebo for 2 months with body composition assessment
Key Findings
No significant differences in BMI, fat mass, muscle or visceral fat between omega-3 and placebo; the visceral fat reduction was only close to significance (p=0.08).
Conclusions
Omega-3 supplementation did not significantly reduce visceral fat in this population.
Limitations
Hemodialysis population not generalisable to healthy adults, short 8-week duration, bioimpedance-type body composition measures.
