Evaluation of a Moisturizing Cream with 20% Urea for Keratosis Pilaris
McCormick E, et al.
Published in Journal of Drugs in Dermatology
Methodology
Open-label single-arm clinical evaluation of a 20% urea moisturising cream applied to affected areas for 4 weeks in subjects with keratosis pilaris, with investigator grading, instrumental hydration measures and subject questionnaires.
Key Findings
Twice-daily application of a 20% urea cream for four weeks significantly improved investigator-rated roughness, dryness and overall keratosis pilaris severity, with high subject-reported satisfaction.
Conclusions
A 20% urea cream significantly improved skin smoothness and texture in keratosis pilaris over four weeks, but the study was open-label with no placebo arm.
Limitations
Open-label with no placebo or vehicle control, small sample (n=30), short 4-week duration, subjective grading, and manufacturer involvement.
