Published in BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine
Methodology
Randomized, double-blind, three-arm controlled trial in Thailand comparing curcumin (250 mg four times daily), omeprazole 20 mg daily, or both for 28 days in 206 patients with functional dyspepsia, assessed by SODA score at days 28 and 56.
Key Findings
Curcumin produced dyspepsia symptom improvement comparable to omeprazole, with combination therapy offering no clear additional benefit.
Conclusions
Curcumin may be a reasonable alternative for functional dyspepsia-type stomach pain over 4-8 weeks.
Limitations
Single-country trial; 55 of 206 participants did not complete; no placebo-only arm.
