    Systematic review and meta-analysis of 34 RCTs using random-effects models and standardized mean differences.

    Key Findings

    Significant reductions in total cholesterol (SMD -1.78), triglycerides (SMD -1.27) and LDL-C (SMD -2.45), with a significant increase in HDL-C (SMD 0.79).

    Conclusions

    Nigella sativa may be useful as an adjuvant anti-hyperlipidemic agent.

    Limitations

    Very large effect sizes with substantial heterogeneity, mostly small trials, publication bias plausible.
