Published in PeerJ
Methodology
Systematic review and meta-analysis of emodin in type 2 diabetes animal models across eight databases searched to May 2023, with SYRCLE risk-of-bias assessment
Key Findings
Emodin improved glucose and lipid parameters in diabetic animal models, but all included studies were preclinical.
Conclusions
Metabolic benefit is animal-model evidence only and does not translate to human dosing guidance.
Limitations
Animal studies only; heterogeneity; risk of bias in included studies.
Supplements Studied
Eight databases were searched from inception to May 2023. Two reviewers extracted the data independently. SYRCLE's risk of bias tool for animal studies was used to assess the quality of articles.
