Methodology
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial across two winter seasons in Tromsø, Norway: 122 adults with active plaque psoriasis and 25(OH)D below 24 ng/mL received cholecalciferol (100,000 IU loading then 20,000 IU/week) or placebo for four months.
Key Findings
Oral vitamin D supplementation produced no significant improvement in PASI or in secondary measures (Physician Global Assessment, self-administered PASI, DLQI) compared with placebo despite raised 25(OH)D levels.
Conclusions
Oral vitamin D supplementation did not reduce psoriasis severity in patients with lower-range vitamin D status.
Limitations
Mostly mild disease (mean PASI 3.1) leaving little room for improvement; four-month duration; single centre at high latitude.
