    N-acetylcysteine reduced exacerbation risk in chronic bronchitis at 1200 mg/day and in confirmed COPD, with the benefit apparently dose-dependent and larger doses needed in more severe airflow obstruction.

    Dose matters: 1200 mg/day appears necessary for benefit in established COPD.
