Meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials of oral N-acetylcysteine in chronic bronchitis and COPD, stratified by dose and disease severity.

N-acetylcysteine reduced exacerbation risk in chronic bronchitis at 1200 mg/day and in confirmed COPD, with the benefit apparently dose-dependent and larger doses needed in more severe airflow obstruction.
