Methodology
4-week controlled feeding crossover study with high- vs low-temperature cooked meat and putative mutagen inhibitors; comet assay on rectal biopsies and lymphocytes
Key Findings
High-temperature meat increased colon and lymphocyte DNA damage; chlorophyllin tablets alongside cruciferous vegetables and yogurt reduced this damage.
Conclusions
Chlorophyllin can attenuate diet-derived genotoxic exposure at the colorectal mucosa.
Limitations
Very small sample; chlorophyllin tested within a combined intervention, so its independent contribution is uncertain; surrogate DNA-damage endpoints.
