Published in Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews

    Abstract

Cochrane review of RCTs evaluating the efficacy and safety of sublingual immunotherapy compared with placebo for allergic rhinoconjunctivitis.

    Methodology

Meta-analysis of double-blind, placebo-controlled RCTs of sublingual immunotherapy in adults and children with allergic rhinitis.

    Key Findings

Sublingual immunotherapy significantly reduced both symptom scores and medication use compared with placebo, with a favorable safety profile.

    Conclusions

Sublingual immunotherapy is an effective and generally well-tolerated alternative to subcutaneous immunotherapy for allergic rhinitis.

    Limitations

Significant heterogeneity among trials in allergen extracts, dosing regimens, and outcome measures; long-term effects less well established.
