Published in BMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Methodology
Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials of omega-3 PUFA supplementation lasting at least 12 weeks in adults with peripheral arterial disease, with major adverse cardiac events as the primary outcome.
Key Findings
Omega-3 supplementation did not significantly reduce major adverse cardiac events or improve walking distance in peripheral arterial disease.
Conclusions
Omega-3 supplementation cannot be recommended to reduce cardiovascular events in PAD.
Limitations
Limited number of trials; short follow-up relative to event rates.
Supplements Studied
We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine whether omega-3 PUFA supplementation reduces the incidence of cardiovascular events and complications in adults with peripheral arterial disease.
