Efficacy and Safety of Different Treatments for Melasma: Network Meta-Analysis of Updated Data
Leung JH, et al.
Published in Diseases
Methodology
Systematic review with Bayesian/frequentist network meta-analysis pooling randomized trials of melasma treatments; primary outcome was change in melasma severity index scores, with safety as a secondary outcome.
Key Findings
In a network meta-analysis of melasma treatments, intradermal platelet-rich plasma alone or combined with other modalities ranked among the more effective and well-tolerated options, with efficacy broadly comparable across several active comparators.
Conclusions
Intradermal PRP alone or in combination is an effective and safe option; the efficacy indices of other modalities were comparable.
Limitations
Heterogeneous protocols and follow-up across included trials, several small underpowered studies, and sparse direct head-to-head comparisons underpinning parts of the network.
