Tribulus terrestris versus placebo in the treatment of erectile dysfunction: A prospective, randomized, double blind study
Santos CA Jr, et al.
Published in Actas Urologicas Espanolas
Methodology
Prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in men with erectile dysfunction; outcomes were IIEF questionnaire scores and serum total testosterone measured before and after treatment.
Key Findings
Over 30 days, Tribulus terrestris (800 mg/day) did not differ significantly from placebo on IIEF erectile function scores or on serum total testosterone in men with mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction; both arms showed small, comparable changes.
Conclusions
Tribulus terrestris was not more effective than placebo on improving symptoms of erectile dysfunction or serum total testosterone.
Limitations
Very small sample (n=30), short 4-week duration, single centre, and no dose-ranging; underpowered to detect modest effects.
Supplements Studied
At the dose and interval studied, Tribulus terrestris was not more effective than placebo on improving symptoms of erectile dysfunction or serum total testosterone.
Outcomes Measured
Over 30 days, Tribulus terrestris (800 mg/day) did not differ significantly from placebo on IIEF erectile function scores or on serum total testosterone in men with mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction; both arms showed small, comparable changes.
